My heart is breaking

Lately I have been seeing many posts on Facebook pertaining to animal abuse. With each post that I see the more my heart breaks. By saying what I am going to say next might label me as a horrible person, but I will always stand by what I say.

I value the lives of animals more than I do the lives of people.

Don’t get me wrong, I know there are a tremendous amount of kind hearted, wonderful, loving people out in the world. I also strongly believe that everyone deserves to have the right to live. This means that people also have the free will to change their life and to make something out of it. I understand that alone can be a grueling and sometimes unbearable task, but the fact that we CAN do something about it (even if it takes a treacherous amount of work alongside our blood and tears) is still something.

Animals on the other hand really do not have that luxury that we as people fail to see and appreciate. They get treated unfairly. People destroy their homes, get murdered for game, get slaughtered so they can be made into someone’s fur coat or handbag, or simply fall victim to someone’s sadistic abuse. It disturbs me.

This picture that I saw was of a man holding a very young dog by the neck up against a wall (I will not post it because it is personally too upsetting for myself to see again). The story is that he abused this dog so severely, that he left her for dead in a park. Eventually, someone found her. Unfortunately, this poor soul was so badly injured and in so much pain that they had to put her down.

This is truly unfair.

Why this bothers me so much to the point of wanting to cry many nights, and puts me into a deep depression is this. Animals (specifically referring to dogs in this case), love you unconditionally from the day they are born until the day they die. No matter how horrible a person is to them, no matter what life throws at them, they will always stay by your side. That’s a lot more than I can say about majority of the people I know. Most people tend to overlook how kind and beautiful the hearts of these creatures are. When an animal attacks somebody in self defense they want to put the dog down (know of someone who put down a dog because it was protecting itself). Or if an animal is aggressive, they get ridiculed for it. People tend to forget that animals are the way they are because people made them that way. People abused them, therefore they turned into something scared or aggressive because that is simply all they know/knew.

I know people go through the exact same things as well, but I have never been betrayed by an animal. I have only been betrayed by people, and I see the negativity people bring on to themselves and other people. So don’t think that I hate the human race, it is the human race that hates itself and is too ignorant to do something about it.

Awww, Keister. Don’t worry. I agree with you. People suck. Animals don’t become aggressive on their own; that’s how pit bulls got a bad rep. The owners are the ones responsible. And when you already see how some people treat other people so badly, it really causes me to die a little inside. Let’s just get a bunch of fluffy animals and live away on a field somewhere where we can play with them a all day!
